Home Maintenance-Autumn

Autumn Home Maintenance Tips

Autumn is a wonderful time for home maintenance!  Whether you are outside cleaning gutters on your home, trimming shrubs and power washing or inside your attic and crawlspace, the weather is working with you!  We want to help you prepare for the season with a few tips to as we head into the colder winter months.

HVAC

One of the more critical elements in your home is your HVAC system.  No one wants to be without heat and air during extreme temperatures!  Now is the perfect time to have that HVAC serviced by a professional, cleaned and filters replaced.  Proper care will add life to your system.

Fireplace

Another important component of your home is your fireplace.  Wood burning fireplaces should be cleaned and any repairs made before use to avoid chimney fires.  Both wood burning and gas fireplaces require annual maintenance to avoid failures and the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning.  Cozy fires are meant for peaceful warm moments without worry!

Attic

While inspecting areas of your home before cold weather, take a look in the attic.  Do you have the proper amount of insulation?  Change your ceiling fan direction to the upward draft for better heat distribution and check for air leaks around windows and doors.  These few simple things can save you money on your heating costs and it is relatively inexpensive to replace weather stripping and to caulk areas of concern.

Don’t Forget the Batteries

Don’t forget to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors!  In addition, make sure you have fresh batteries, a flashlight, candles and matches in an easily accessible area in case of emergency.
