Radon Testing Springfield MO
Radon Gas
Mirowski Inspections conducts simple, inexpensive radon testing that you can add to your home inspection or order on its own to learn the overall health and safety of your home or property. Radon comes from the natural (radioactive) breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water, entering the air you breathe. Radon is colorless and odorless. It can infiltrate any type of building – homes, offices, and schools – and build up to high levels. But you and your family will most likely receive your greatest exposure where you spend most of your time… your home.
It is estimated that radon causes many thousands of deaths each year because breathing air that contains radon can cause lung cancer. In fact, the Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today. Only smoking causes more lung cancer deaths. If you smoke and your home has high radon levels, your risk of contracting lung cancer is especially high.
Radon Testing If Selling a Home
EPA recommends that you test for radon in the home before you put it on the market and, if necessary, lower the levels of radon. Save the test results and all information you have about steps that were taken to fix any problems. This could be a positive selling point.
Radon Testing If Buying a Home
EPA recommends that you know what the indoor levels of radon in any home you consider buying. Ask the seller for their radon home test results. If the home has a radon reduction system, ask the seller for the information they have about the system. If the home has not yet been tested, you should request a test be performed for radon in the home.
Radon Testing If You Are Buying New Construction
If you are having a new home built, there are features that can be incorporated during construction to reduce radon dangers. Talk to your builder about Radon and if the home has not been equipped with Radon reducing features and tested, have it tested before you move in.
Radon Test Equipment
Mirowski Inspections uses continuous radon monitors which are the most accurate way to test for Radon. We set up our equipment in your house for 48 hrs. Our equipment takes a measurement of Radon every hour on the hour. We will return 48 hrs later to retrieve our Radon equipment and process your detailed report, telling us the average level of Radon over the 48 hr span of time.
Our equipment has anti-tampering systems which let us know if the test is valid or if there is foul play. To ensure an accurate test, our equipment is calibrated annually and we perform quarterly cross-checks.
